Further information
Is Meiningen the secret capital? That, at least, is what the WDR (West German Broadcasting Corporation) investigated a few years ago, choosing Meiningen as the ideal location and awarding the small town in southern Thuringia the title "Q-City."
That's not entirely untrue. Until 1918, Meiningen was the capital and residence of the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. To this day, the buildings of that era shape Meiningen's cityscape, and many sights are closely linked to the duchy.
The theater, in particular, is a major draw, but Elisabethenburg Palace, the Goetz Cave, and the newly opened Steam Locomotive Adventure World, located near the traditional steam locomotive factory, also attract numerous visitors every year.
Our tour guides specialize in visiting the most beautiful spots in the city center and sharing the most important facts and entertaining anecdotes about the city's history.
The walking tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and can be booked individually.
